Working With Me

Working With Me

Initial Assessment

The initial assessment session helps us gain a clearer understanding of the challenges you are facing and the goals you want to achieve. It’s important that you feel comfortable with me, and that I feel confident I can offer the support you need. If we both decide to continue, we will agree on the days and times for our regular sessions.

I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, integrating them naturally to meet your unique needs. Each modality offers different tools and perspectives, allowing us to work together in a way that feels right for you. Key methods I use in my practice include:

Integrative Psychotherapy

Integrative therapy is based on a relational and developmental model that recognises the importance of early life experiences and relationships in shaping how we relate to ourselves and others. It draws from a variety of psychotherapeutic theories and techniques, which I blend naturally to suit your individual needs. This flexible approach allows us to explore your experiences deeply within a compassionate and supportive therapeutic relationship, helping you to understand, process, and integrate your past in a way that fosters healing and growth.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)

EMDR is a structured, evidence-based therapy recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and widely used within the NHS for treating trauma and PTSD. It works by helping the brain reprocess distressing memories and experiences that may be stuck or overwhelming, allowing you to reduce their emotional impact.

Through guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation, EMDR supports the natural healing process of the brain, enabling you to process difficult emotions and memories in a safe and manageable way. This approach can be particularly helpful when verbalising trauma is challenging or when traditional talk therapy alone feels insufficient.

Parks Inner Child Therapy (PICT)

PICT is a structured, trauma-informed therapeutic approach developed by Penny Parks that focuses on healing emotional wounds rooted in early childhood experiences. It recognises that many of our core beliefs and emotional responses are shaped by interactions with caregivers and significant figures during our formative years.

This therapy works by identifying and gently reprocessing negative patterns and unresolved feelings held by the ‘inner child’, the part of us that carries childhood memories and unmet emotional needs. Through this process, clients can begin to release entrenched pain and develop healthier, more adaptive ways of relating to themselves and others. PICT provides a clear and supportive framework for working with complex trauma, enabling deep emotional healing and integration.

Couples Therapy

I work collaboratively with couples to deepen understanding, enhance communication, and strengthen resilience within their relationship. Every couple’s journey is unique, and I support you both to navigate challenges in a way that respects your individual needs and shared goals.

Whether you are aiming to rebuild connection, work through conflict, or make thoughtful decisions about your future, together or apart, I provide a compassionate space to explore your relationship honestly and safely.

My couple's training follows a relational and developmental integrative model, helping couples uncover patterns, attachment styles, and dynamics that influence how you relate to each other. This awareness creates opportunities for greater empathy, trust, and meaningful change. I welcome couples from diverse cultural backgrounds and all sexual orientations, and work with a wide range of issues including life transitions, betrayal, communication breakdowns, and fertility challenges.

Neurodivergence Support

It is increasingly common for adults to begin exploring their neurodivergent traits, sometimes before receiving a formal diagnosis. Whether you are navigating questions around ADHD, autism, Tourette’s, or other neurodivergent experiences, psychotherapy can offer a reflective and supportive space to better understand how these aspects of your identity may have shaped your life and relationships.

I am ADHD-informed, having completed certified training with Dr James Kustow. I work with adults who have a diagnosis of ADHD, as well as those who are curious about or recognise themselves in a neurodivergent way of thinking and being.

In therapy, we can explore how neurodivergence may influence your thinking, emotions, sensory experiences, and relationships. This process can support greater self-awareness, reduce self-criticism, and help you develop ways of managing challenges while also recognising and valuing your strengths. My approach is compassionate and tailored to your individual needs, supporting the development of resilience, self-acceptance, and meaningful connection.

Therapy & Surgery Support

I have a particular interest in supporting clients who are preparing for or recovering from major surgery, especially when this involves the removal of a body part for life-saving or life-changing reasons. This interest is informed by my dissertation research during my Master’s degree, where I explored the psychological and emotional impact of surgery on identity and well-being.

I work with clients undergoing or recovering from surgeries such as mastectomies, bowel resections, hysterectomies, orchiectomies (removal of testicles), kidney removal, and other significant procedures. These surgeries can profoundly affect how you experience your body, sense of self, and emotional health.

Support can include exploring feelings of loss or grief, changes in body image, challenges with adjustment, and processing the emotional impact both before and after surgery. I seek to provide a compassionate and understanding space where you can openly express your concerns, work through complex emotions, and build resilience for the changes ahead.

Trainee counsellors & Psychotherapists

I am qualified to work with counselling and psychotherapy students and trainees, and I warmly welcome those wishing to begin or continue personal therapy as part of their training journey. I recognise the importance of this element of professional development and offer a respectful, reflective space where you can explore your own experiences alongside the learning and challenges of training. Whether you are just starting or nearing qualification, I aim to support your development both personally and professionally.

Clinical Supervision

Alongside my clinical work, I am currently in advanced training as a clinical supervisor and welcome counselling and psychotherapy supervisees. I also invite supervisees from wider professional contexts such as health, social care, and education. I aim to offer a supportive and reflective supervisory space where your clinical practice, professional growth, and self-awareness can be thoughtfully explored.
